Ensure animal welfare or else forgo animal use
Anthropocentric science will have trouble providing evidence of sentience in animals. Solely objects that can be measured and compared to a known model are accepted as true. When scientists are financed by sponsors whose profit could be impaired by the detection of higher awareness in animal species, nothing will change. However, I know that all beings are individuals, equipped with an ego that senses pain, desire, and much more, but maybe quite differently from what we are able to imagine or to verify. Nevertheless I can take responsibility for the use of animals, but only if I am fully involved with ensuring the animal’s welfare and its killing are as free from pain as possible.
What about plants? All life deserves protection, and all who protect any kind of life should cooperate. Because equity and a fair life for some will not last without conceding it to others as well. More…
